Periyanna, is yet another sentimental love story based on a village background. Suriya, a violin player is in prison for some reason. The heroine of the movie falls in love with Suriya for his aptitude in Violin and becomes the student of him. Love blooms and when the girl's father discovers it, the war begins. The lovebirds elope. They meet Vijayakanth, who comes to their rescue. Vijayakanth, born in a village gets odd treatment from the big head (Pannaiyar) of his village. The Pannaiyar remain a great problem to the girls and others in their village. So, Vijayakanth retaliates. The whole story is narrated to the young pair by Vijayakanth. At last how the Vijayakanth saved the lovers and got them married is the rest of the story.
